Why is a red Pegasus the symbol of Dallas? And how did Dallas come to have two Pegasuses?

Short answer: Dallas loves oil money and one of the original major oil companies was Magnolia Petroleum Company.  Never heard of it?  It would ultimately become Mobil Oil Company.  It was through a series of mergers that Magnolia Petroleum Company changed its name multiple times, but also changed its logo from a magnolia to a red Pegasus, adopting the new logo from an absorbed company.

Stay tuned for the tale of how Dallas ended up with two of these magnificent, glowing beasts.
