This is the headstone of Rufus C Patton.  He is not famous, to my knowledge. He does, however, have a lovely headstone in Pioneer Park that has withstood weathering and clearly shows the Freemason symbol above the words ‘my beloved husband’.  Notice the capital G in the center of the square and compass.  The capital G denotes that every act is done in the sight of The Great Architect of the Universe.

Pioneer Park cemetery was once several cemeteries butted up against one another.  There once was a Jewish section (since moved) and an Old City section.  The core of what is left belonged to the Freemasons and the Oddfellows. Jointly, the two organizations bought and donated land for a cemetery.  The Freemasons and the Oddfellows had very different trajectories for their members, with many Dallas men belonging to both organizations.
