Our last post was inquiring about a ‘loo table’ from the Ximenez-Fatio house in St. Augustine, Florida.  Libby came through with what I think is the correct answer!  This is not a Loo gaming table – as those are usually round – nor is it inlaid with mother-of-pearl.  However, those shapes around the table might be mother-of-pearl and so thin that when placed on the table, they lie flat.  Appearing as inlay.  Libby sent me a link with the background of those white, pearly shapes.  They are used to count points in Whist.  Whist was also a popular game in the early 1800s, along with Loo.

Thanks, Libby!  I am pretty sure you are correct when you say this is a regular gaming table, set up for a game of Whist.
