Feast your eyes upon the Garland Hotel which stood at the north east corner of the square (a few doors to the right of Intrinsic’s location). This photo was taken sometime around 1906, when the streets were still dirt. The sidewalks, however, had been upgraded with wood planks to keep the ladies’ skirts clean on Monday trade days.

This hotel burned to the ground in June of 1932 – the midst of the Great Depression. The lot would be vacant for some time (not a lot of buildings going up in the Depression). A plain, single story building was erected in 1953 to be used as a jail and as part of the police department for roughly a decade.

A three story mixed use building stands on this corner now, with the Garland Economic Development offices on the first floor.
