The Pegasus, symbol of Dallas, is often viewed atop the Magnolia Hotel. What is now referred to as the Magnolia Hotel used to be formally known as the Magnolia Petroleum Building. We posted about the building supporting the original Pegasus from 1934 until 1999, with it’s replacement being installed prior to New Year’s 2000.
However, the building pre-dates our Pegasus history timeline. The Magnolia Petroleum Building was originally completed way back in 1922. When completed, it dwarfed the Adolphus Hotel next door. The structure soared at over 400 feet/29 stories; it was the tallest building in Texas for a while.
