In past posts, we have discussed the charmed business acumen of Carrie Marcus-Neiman, Herbert Marcus and Al Neiman. But, the Neiman-Marcus family was not without their troubles too.  Their grand store opening was in 1907, sans Carrie and Herbert, due to their respective health troubles.  In 1913, the flagship store burned to the ground along with all of their stock, creating quite a setback for Neiman-Marcus.  However, they were quickly able to patch together a temporary storefront with new stock and open to customers.  Their second store, at the corner of Main and Ervay, was opened in 1914 to much fanfare. This iconic building still stands.

To see the store in person, book a tour. Their window displays alone are worth it.
