Neiman-Marcus – who they were working for in the beginning.

To escape poverty, Herbert Marcus moved to Hillsboro, TX (from Louisville, KY) and began work as a janitor.  Then he moved to Dallas to sell insurance and clothing; he also got married.  Herbert ultimately got a job at Sanger Brothers in the women’s shoe department but was quickly moved to other departments as a buyer.  Carrie Marcus, meanwhile, had arrived in Dallas and made a mark at A. Harris and Company in the women’s department.  She would marry A.L. (called ‘Al’ but short for Abraham Lincoln) Neiman and the four would move to Atlanta, Georgia to start their own marketing firm, which was very successful.

So successful, Coca-Cola is eyeballing them.  Find out why, and how this turns out, tomorrow.
