Reunion Tower was named for an early Dallas settlement (La Reunion) west of the Trinity River. Numbers are not exact, but roughly 200 people came from France, Switzerland and Belgium to start a socialist society in the wilds of Dallas in the 1850s. Dallas wouldn’t achieve 900 residents until 1860, so throwing in 200 European socialists in 1855 was eyebrow raising.  These new settlers dreamt of living communally, but their ideal never came to fruition.

Next up: our La Reunion settlers begin their travels to Texas.
