Train wrecks is both literal and metaphorical.  Metaphorical train wreck: I slid off the rails with buying and rehabbing a new house, letting the website slide a bit.  But, I am back on track.  (Puns left and right!)

Literal train wreck:  the Crash at Crush, which is our topic for this series of posts.  But, let’s back up a bit and start with the rail industry in the mid-1800’s.  It was just picking up steam (pun!) and investment in railroads was bringing in good returns.  Additionally, the rails would give us our time zones – each town basically decided on what time it was locally before the advent of trains and the necessity of dependable and cohesive time zones for scheduling purposes.

Even with these advancements, travel by rail was dicey – for several decades, there were no food cars west of Omaha because it was just too great of an enticement to robbers.  Those food cars were chock full of rich people in their jewelry, delicacies, drink and cash.  Nom nom nom to the bad guys.
