Famous Serial Killer with Ties to Dallas
Minnie and Nannie Williams, sisters raised mostly in the Dallas area, will become two of Herman Mudgett, aka H.H. Holmes’ victims. The Chicago-area serial killer will meet Minnie Williams several years before he murdered her and hid her corpse in an abandoned home’s basement sometime in July 1893.
Minnie became Mudgett’s target due to her huge fortune. She (and her siblings) had a very sad childhood in which their incredibly rich parents died young and the children were bounced to the Tarrant County home of their uncle (Dr. J.R.P. Williams) who also died shortly thereafter. With no more relatives, Minnie became the ward of a local judge. Minnie was sent to Boston in 1888 to study music which was seen as fitting for a wealthy young lady of the day. On her way back home to Texas, she stopped in New York and it is there that she met Herman Mudgett. Mudgett, ever quick with the aliases, was known as Edward Hatch at the time. He was good looking and she was smitten.
