Remember when all of your aunts’ houses were decorated with owls that stared at you? When people smoked in the living room while playing pinochle, refused to dig the seatbelts out of the bench seats in the car, and gifted you child-sized kitchen sets made of lead paint-coated steel?
Chase that danger high on the Garland Square. Brazenly walk around with your wine or beer while hunting fried foods. Every restaurant/bakery/coffee shop is partaking in Fair Fare on the Square for September. Corn dogs, funnel cakes, fried Thanksgiving balls, fried garlic cheese curd knots, turkey legs, waffles on a stick. Whatever fair food is your weakness, they are serving it.
Then, in lieu of a ride in the station wagon/backwards in the way, way back/trying to get 18 wheel trucks to blow their air horn, turn your stomach by listening to stories about roasted constables, cyclones, fires and one very unfortunate drunk guy with a brother-in-law looking to ‘sober him up’.
