Man Crushed by Hotel Elevator
…. Batasar Calvilio, 30 years old, 1712 McKinney Avenue, was killed at about 5’oclock Tuesday afternoon when he was crushed between a descending service elevator and the landing above the main kitchen in the basement of the Adolphus Hotel.
Arllano, the operator of the elevator, said that Calvillo had the door open and was looking up for the car. He said that the elevator had made its last stop at the seventh floor and that he did not see the man in time.
Calvillo was employed in the main kitchen as range fireman. He had been there only a few months, but had worked at the hotel some time before.
The landing when the accident occurred is below the main lobby floor and above the level of the main kitchen.
Dr. B. Randolph of the Emergency Hospital said that death was instantaneous. The body is being held by the George A. Brewer undertaking company pending funeral arrangements.
