Adolphus Busch, Honorary Dallasite
So, life happened and I didn’t post for a while.
But you know what makes life better? BEER.
Do you know what made Adolphus Busch rich? BEER.
But, it wasn’t just the beer. It was all the dang innovating he did that made his beer very consistent, reliable, cold and delightful.
Adolphus Busch innovations in beer production:
1) Updated the recipe so the beer was less bitter and appealed to a wider array of people.
2) Coined the name ‘Budweiser’ which would be attractive to German immigrants but also easy to pronounce by everyone else. You don’t want people trying to order your beer yet unable to pronounce the name.
3) Pasteurization! Anheuser Busch was the first brewery to use pasteurization. Adolphus knew that if you could pasteurize a beer, you could safely ship it much further distances and get it in the hands of people far and wide. Budweiser was the first nationally marketed beer.
4) Ice, Ice Baby! Not only did Adolphus refrigerate his beer in storage, he had refrigerated rail cars for shipment and railroad ice houses dispersed along the way to replenish said rail cars.
5) Marketing! Adolphus was the king of giveaways and promotions.
Do you enjoy a delicious, cold beer from the other side of the world that doesn’t make you sick when you drink it? Thank Adolphus Busch.
