As of 1907, Neiman-Marcus is open for business and doing a booming one at that.
The Neiman-Marcus department store was going head-to-head with their rivals Sanger Bros. and A. Harris Company – the stores where Herbert and Carrie were originally trained as buyers and salespeople. Even as owners, Carrie and Herbert continued as highly regarded salespeople who still took the time to personally attend to customers at their new store. As both Carrie and Herbert had stellar reputations, their past sales associates clamored to work at Neiman-Marcus. Neiman-Marcus managed to lure away the very top salespeople from both Sanger Bros. and A. Harris and Company. That same sales force brought their top customers with them. Both rival department stores were very quickly in serious trouble. Competing with the lavish and personal experience at Neiman-Marcus was not something easily achieved.
