Our latest dive in to Nevermore architecture is this version of Dallas City Hall. It stood for a little more than 20 years and was completed in 1888 utilizing a bizarre but appealing mix of Romanesque and Gothic Revival styles. It stood at Commerce and Akard Streets at a cost of $80,000 at the time/2.1M in today’s dollars. (That still sounds like a deal as Dallas prices stand.) What do you get for that kind of money? Three stories, cherry/oak/black walnut interior, expensive carpeting and an auditorium to seat 1000.
This lovely didn’t stand too long as it was nevermore’d in 1910 to make way for……the Adolphus Hotel. The Adolphus is on our tours! Join us.
