Max Orlopp, the architect behind Old Red, opened an architecture firm in Dallas by 1917. The firm is listed as Orlopp & Orlopp because Max employed FOUR of his nephews in the firm.
A few years after the listing for Orlopp & Orlopp, Max’s design for Old Red had real problems – the clock tower had to be removed in 1919 because the weight of it could not be supported by the building. Things only got worse for Max – he was declared incompetent in the early 1920s and was assigned a guardian. He passed away in Dallas in 1927.
