We left out story with Charles Paglee pulling the heart-strings of Orrin Hatch, Ross Perot and Harry McKillop to get the “American woman” sprung from her run-down medical facility in Harbin, China.
Who was she and how did she end up there? Her name was Marjorie Fuller. She was born in Shanghai to an American father and Polish-born mother. The two ultimately divorced (date unknown). The invading Japanese during WWII saw the mother and daughter taken in to custody. Ultimately, the Fuller women had their Chinese passports destroyed under Mao Zedong’s regime. This resulted in them being declared ‘stateless’ and sent to a work camp outside of Shanghai in 1959 (Marjorie would have been in her 30s and had already spent time in Japanese custody). Marjorie and her mother would reside in this work camp for 21 years.
But, the story is not over. Marjorie makes it to the US after an additional 15 years. Stay tuned.
