Yesterday we highlighted the Pegasus atop the Magnolia Building on Commerce Street. That Pegasus is a mere 20 years old. The 86 year old version that originally stood in the same spot can now be viewed in front of the Omni Building a few blocks over. Why the shuffling?
The original Pegasus stood from 1934 until it was deemed too decrepit and was taken down in 1999, to make room for a brand-spanking new one that was lit on December 31, 1999 to ring in the year 2000. Unfortunately, the original one found itself chopped up and ultimately stored in a building near White Rock Lake. That is until a few curious Dallasites called attention to the fact and the original was dug out, spruced up and given new life in front of the Omni, atop an imitation oil derrick. The 1934 Pegasus was re-installed in May of 2015 after languishing for most of those 15 years.
