These are the original pews from the 1895 Pilot Grove Church, the entire church being now restored and ‘living’ at Dallas Heritage Village. To this day, Pilot Grove appears to be in the middle of nowhere, north and east of McKinney, Texas. Churches like these did not have dedicated preachers in most cases. But, they welcomed traveling preachers, especially rousing ones. This was ostensibly (originally) a Methodist church. That said, sermon beggars can’t be choosers, and most Christian preachers were welcomed at these out-of-the-way churches.
