In our story of Adolphus Busch, honorary Dallasite, we are up to the outbreak of the Civil War. Eberhard Anheuser and his new-ish son-in-law, Adolphus Busch, both enlisted in the Union Army. Their intent was to help their home state of Missouri fight off the Secessionists. They both served an impossibly short term of three months and both were honorably discharged. Not only that, they were both discharged at the same rank – Corporal.
Adolphus Busch judiciously invested in Southern goods after the Civil War and used the money to invest in his father-in-law’s brewery. This was a good investment as the United States saw a huge influx of immigrants from European and Eastern European countries who had a taste for pilsner beer.
