Located off Rowlett Cemetery Road (just west of Custer Road) in Rowlett is one of the older cemeteries in Collin County. It belonged to a community of Baptists mostly from southwestern Illinois. The church dates to the 1840s with the land donated for the cemetery dating to the early 1860s. Here we have one of the first formal burials, that of Alfred Harrington, 1812 to 1862. Mr. Harrington died of pneumonia. This headstone is a more modern marker, his original headstone not visible any longer. Stay tuned for many of the much more interesting headstones – there are quite a few designs in this cemetery that I have not seen in others around Dallas*.
